This charming French movie is one of the funniest foreign movies I've
ever seen. Released in 2006 under the title Prete-moi ta main, I Do
will
make you laugh charming you into believing in true but unexpected
love. Luis Costa, played by Alain Chabat, (pictured above) is a 41 year old bachelor and enjoys the single life. However, his mother and his sisters desperately want him to marry someone so they don't have to do his laundry and baby him. They believe that is the job of a wife. Because he is too timid to forthwrightly tell his family he doesn't want to get married, he devises a plan in order to get them off his back: he will pay a woman to pretend to be his girlfriend. She will be the perfect woman; dress the part and act the part. She will then leave him at the alter and he will be so devastated, his family will never even speak of marriage again.
He hires his co-worker's beer-drinking-belching-leave-the-door-open-while-peeing-punk-kid, Emma played by Charlotte Gainsbourg (pictured above) to play the part of a perfect girlfriend. She passes the test exceptionally and his family falls in love with her. Luis discovers that Emma is a better actress than he thought; spending so much time with her elicits a response in him that is unexpected. When she leaves him at the alter, the drama that unfolds will have you bursting with laughter and sighing with satisfaction. Only 90 minutes long with English subtitles, I Do
